Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Boumalne Dades

Your desert tour from Marrakech to tangier begins with pick up from your accommodation. Leaving the red plains of Al Haouz and the medina of Marrakech behind us, we climb up in the High Atlas Mountains to reach the highest pass of Tizi n´Tichka at 2260 meters. Along the trip, you can observe the Amazigh life as we pass adobe villages, terraced fields, and beautiful countryside.

We will stop for a photo break from the pass before visiting the ksar of Ait Benhaddou, a fortified stronghold on the old salt caravan road to Timbuktu. This is an essential and favorite filming location; many movies have been made here.

After a lunch break, we continue to Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Africa, a name well-earned for the numerous films in this location. We then drive through the Skoura Palm Groves and on to Kelaat M´gouna, the Valley of the Roses, and the road of a Thousand Kasbahs to reach the Dades Gorge. This journey is full of breathtaking scenery, kasbahs at every turn, and valleys full of fruits, roses, and crops—accommodation with dinner and breakfast in a traditional guesthouse.

Day 2: Boumalne Dades - Todgha Gorges - Merzouga desert

After breakfast, we leave this fantastic gorge to visit another further along the valley. In Tinghir, we take the road up to the Todra Gorge, a favorite place for international rock climbers as it boasts a 300-metre vertical fault with a crystalline glacial river running through it. This pink-tinted canyon is only 10 meters wide at its narrowest point and was formed by glacial activity. Nomads can be seen with their donkeys filling up water containers.

After a lunch break here, we continue south, passing through palm groves and Berber villages with adobe kasbahs until the landscape changes and the Sahara sands welcome us to the Erg Chebbi dunes and Merzouga. After a welcome mint tea, we will enjoy the sun setting on a camel ride across the dunes to our nomadic-style camp, where dinner and local music are served under a star-filled sky.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert - Ziz Valley - Fes

One of the most peaceful times of the day is just before sunrise. Your camel guide will wake you up early in the morning, and you will have the opportunity to witness perhaps the most memorable dawn of your life. How the light changes as the sun rises can be unique. You will then have breakfast and ride your camel back to the hotel, where you will meet up with your driver.

Our journey then continues as we will travel to Fes via Erfoud, Aoufous, and Errachidia along the magnificent Ziz Valley, which has been carved through the volcanic rock, and through the Tizi N’Talghemt pass to Midelt, where we stop to enjoy lunch and refresh with a glass of mint tea. From there, we are in the Middle Atlas, home to the great cedar forests and the indigenous Barbary monkeys that can be seen in Azrou.

Then we drive to Ifrane, known as Little Switzerland because of its alpine-style architecture, where we will stop for a picture and coffee before we arrive in the Imperial city and ancient medina of Fes. Accommodation will be in a typical riad with half board.

Day 4: Fes - Volubilis - Chefchaouen

After breakfast, there will be a half-day guided tour of the spiritual and cultural medieval city; after lunch, we will take the road to the Roman ruins of Volubilis for another cultural tour of ancient lifestyles with massive columns and intricate mosaics. Heading north, we drive across the picturesque countryside full of wildflowers and rolling fields to reach the rugged mountains of the Rif and the hidden medina of Chefchaouen. Overnight in a riad . We recommend a visit to the Atmospheric Square for dinner.

Day 5: Chefchaouen - Tangier

On the final day of your desert tour, In the morning, you can wander around this charming blue city and discover its hidden streets and doors. It has many exciting artisan shops ideal for those last-minute gifts and taking amazing photos. After lunch, we take the road north, where the desert tour from Marrakech to Tangier finishes
