On the first day of your 8-day tour from Marrakech to Fes via Merzouga, you’ll begin your journey in the morning.
Depart from your hotel or the airport in Marrakech and head to the Dades Valley. As you venture into the High Atlas Mountains, you’ll ascend the famous Tizi N-Tichka pass, which reaches an elevation of 2260 meters. Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to make several stops and take in the breathtaking scenery, characterized by a variety of hues and punctuated by tiny Berber settlements. At these stopping points, you’ll be able to look around and capture photographs to document your journey.
One of the notable highlights of the day’s itinerary is a visit to the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. After a traditional Moroccan breakfast, we will depart from Dades and travel to the Todra Gorges. Take a stroll through the narrow canyon, snapping photos of the towering walls, which rise up to 300 meters in height. This is a popular spot for rock climbers. We will then continue on to the Merzouga Sahara Desert, stopping for lunch at a local restaurant along the way. In the late afternoon, we will arrive at the Erg Chebbi dunes. Enjoy a 1.5-hour camel trek into the heart of the desert, where you can watch the sunset from the top of one of the tallest sand dunes. Have a delicious meal accompanied by traditional Berber drum music and dancing, then spend the night in a standard or luxury desert camp beneath the starfilled sky.
Your camel guide will wake you up early in the morning to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. This is a truly unforgettable experience, as the sun casts a golden glow over the sand dunes, creating a breathtaking sight. After breakfast, you will return to your riad or hotel in Merzouga and meet your driver/guide for an off-road excursion across the desert. You will have the opportunity to explore the Khamlia settlement, a Berber village known for its soulful Gnawa music.
You will also visit some abandoned mines and a palm-tree oasis. This excursion is a great way to learn about the Berber culture and way of life. You will see how the nomads live in tents and tend to their herds of goats and camels. You will also have the opportunity to try some traditional Berber food and drink. After your excursion, you will return to Merzouga and have some free time to explore the town’s streets. This is a charming town with a lot to offer visitors. You can wander through the souk, visit the local mosque, or simply enjoy a cup of tea in one of the many cafes.

Today, we leave the Sahara Desert after an unforgettable off-road adventure and encounters with nomadic people.
After breakfast, we continue our 8-day tour from Marrakech to Fes, stopping in Rissani and Erfoud along the way. In Rissani, we will visit the authentic souk, where you can wander around and shop like a local. You can find everything from souvenirs and spices to traditional clothing and jewelry. From Rissani, we will continue on our way to Midelt, pausing along the way to take in the panoramic views of palm trees across the Ziz Valley. This lush valley is a welcome sight after the desert landscape. After Errachidia, we will pass through the Rich Ziz Gorges, a series of dramatic canyons carved out of volcanic rock. We will then drive over the Tizi N Talghamt Pass and arrive in Midelt. We will spend the night in Midelt at a comfortable hotel, where we will enjoy dinner and breakfast.
After breakfast, we will continue our 8-day desert tour from Marrakech, traveling from Midelt to Fes. Along the way, we will pass through small, ancient mud Berber settlements in the Middle Atlas Mountains.
Our first stop will be in the renowned Cedar forest of Azrou, where we will have the opportunity to observe and photograph the Barbarian macaques (monkeys). These playful creatures are a popular attraction for visitors to the region. From Azrou, we will continue on to Ifrane, a charming mountain town known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” This town is known for its alpine architecture, its cedar forests, and its trout-filled lakes.
After a brief stop in Ifrane, we will arrive in Fes, where we will check into our hotel or riad.
